A hint of Christmas spirit in the air is the cue for the Rotaract Club of Royal Institute of Colombo to get started on our biggest Community Service project of the year- 12 Days of Christmas.

This mammoth of a project commenced with the sub-project ā€œFurry Fam Treatā€ where members of our Rotaract Club took to the streets of Mount Lavinia on the 28th of November to feed the stray dogs that are abundant in Sri Lanka. This initiative was undertaken with the aim to enhance the health and well-being of these animals by providing nutritious food, thereby reducing their suffering.

The following day our Rotaractors headed to the Navodaya Special School in Moratuwa to complete the project ā€œClaus For A Cause.ā€Ā There, we spent the day fostering inclusivity and connection between ourselves and the students at the school through engaging conversations, shared activities, and the spirit of giving.

The 1st of December took us to Sri Gnanendra Vidyalaya, Rathmalana to complete the project ā€œNoelā€™s Children,ā€ which aimed to provide underprivileged school children with not only a wholesome meal but also a memorable day filled with learning, joy, and companionship.

To give back to our lovely support staff at Royal Institute of Colombo, on the 3rd of December we carried out the fourth project of our initiative, ā€œFestive Fiesta.ā€ By providing a good meal and vouchers to our amazing uncles and aunties, we were able to ensure that they had a great time and felt our appreciation for everything they do for us.

Project ā€œSnowflake Smilesā€ took place on the 15th of December at the CCC House in Maharagama. This project aimed at bringing comfort to the patients and their families facing the challenges of cancer treatment through the creation of care packages for the forty kids.

Projects ā€œGrass And Rootsā€ and ā€œMaa Sevana'' were both conducted in tandem on the 16th of December at the Sarvodya Suwasetha Nutrition Centre. The primary objective of ā€œGrass And Rootsā€ was to enhance the environmental sustainability of our community through a targeted tree-planting initiative. The main objective of ā€œMaa Sevanaā€ was toĀ contribute to the long-term goal of reducing malnutrition in Sri Lanka through the donation of dry rations.

On the 17th of December, our Rotaractors headed to the Help for Life Elderly Care Home in Nugegoda to complete the project ā€œSilver Bells,ā€ with the aim of enhancing the quality of life for the elderly residents there.

The following day, project ā€œDigital Dreamsā€ kicked off in Wethara Maha Vidyalaya with the aim of enhancing the educational environment at a local school.Ā

On the 20th of December, ā€œMerry Mindsā€ saw our Rotaractors at the National Institute of Mental Health, donations in hand with the aim of improving the wellbeing of patients.

Project ā€œMeal To Healā€ was carried out on the 21st of December in Nugegoda with the objective of feeding the homeless to address immediate hunger and provide basic sustenance.

The final project of our 12 Days of Christmas initiative was ā€œSantaā€™s Helpers,ā€ which took place on the 23rd of December. At St. Anthonyā€™s Church Mayura in Nugegoda, our Rotaract Club brought the spirit of Christmas and endless joy to our local community by providing essential dry rations to a church serving low-income families.

With that, our biggest Community Service project of the year was successfully concluded, thanks to the unending efforts of our 24 Project Co-chairs, as well as the primary Project Co-chairs of the '12 Days of Christmas' - Avenue Directors of Community Service, Rtr. Ayami Wickramanayake and Rtr. Pramodhya Sooriyabandara, and President Rtr. Akithya Rajapakshe.

We will be back next year with 12 Days of Christmas 2024- for the fifth consecutive year!
